OUR MOVEMENT

The message behind our organization's name

As used in modular arithmetic, the modulo operator is used to write congruences in base n (remainder operator for a number when divided by n). For example, we are taught to perform mathematical calculations in base ten (digits 0-9), computers process information in binary/base 2 (digits 0-1), etc. Mod n, where n is an arbitrary natural number, represents which base we are working in. Thus, we created our name to encapsulate our nonprofit's primary goal: to better integrate STEM into your day-to-day life while providing STEM education tailored to your specific needs. With the appropriate mindset and resources, a part of everyone exists within STEM!

Bonus (post your answer in the forums!): The number obtained from the last two nonzero digits of 90! is equal to n. What is n?

 Free Services

STEM Resources

We have a potpourri of STEM-related articles written by our staff, domain-categorized directives to relevant competitions, tutorials, and opportunities, and a curated list of high-quality texts to aid you on your scientific journey.

OUTREACH

We provide in-person lectures in select global locations (recordings will be available soon) and online lectures, which are occasionally augmented by the insights of experts in their respective STEM fields. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are able to distribute STEM resources to underprivileged communities and provide funding for future STEM leaders to pursue their passions.

Collaboration

You can communicate with other learners through the forums and science groups embedded into our website. If desired, you may apply to establish a chapter of YOU (mod STEM) in your location, to broaden our reach and goal to provide a universal and completely free STEM education for all.

PERSONALIZED LESSON PLANS

By request, one of our staff members can create an interactive curriculum for you to follow in pursuit of knowledge in any combination of desired STEM fields. This curriculum combines online readings and activities with physical labs and exercises you can generally perform with everyday materials.

STEM Resources

Our staff written articles can be found on our Blog; at YOU (mod STEM), we provide unique perspectives to a variety of well-known as well as niche STEM domains. In External Resources, you can find a highly categorized resources directory for all of your mathematics, physics, computer science, robotics, chemistry, and biology needs.

Below you may access condensed multilingual STEM topic guides created by our staff. Feel free to use the Members Chat to provide any feedback on our content so we can best cater to your personal needs. Use the slide deck below to navigate the resources (the presentations are organized by topic).

Physics (Classical Mechanics) Competition 2022!

Would you like to participate in YOU (mod STEM)'s first annual physics competition?! This year we're focusing on classical mechanics,

the science of the interactions and movement of macroscopic objects, such as projectiles, pendulums and planets! At the link below,

you can access more details, as well as age group specific resources to prepare.

Whet your physics appetite with the following problems!

Collaboration

Forums

1. Ask anything STEM or YOU (mod STEM) related. This can be a new post about learning how to learn, a topic you are struggling with, but doesn't necessarily fit within any existing groups, etc.

2. Comment and share others' posts!

3. Spread the word! If you known anyone who might potentially benefit from collaboration with like-minded STEM learners and enthusiasts, let them know about our forums.

Groups

1. Interact and learn with other STEM enthusiasts at or near your experience and/or grade level.

2. Submit new topic requests to discuss your favorite domains.

3. Do international networking about related opportunities (competitions, projects, and more!).

Creating a chapter

1. Email us at you.modstem@gmail.com with the information below, and we will decide whether

you are eligible to open a chapter in your location

  • Chapter location (city, state/province, country)

  • A mission statement (paragraph detailing why you want to open a new chapter; what needs in your region need to be addressed)

  • What do you plan to accomplish and how will you execute these goals (e.g., say you want to increase literacy in your community and you will do this by raising money by applying to nonprofit grants or funding from YOU (mod STEM) and soliciting donors, in order to eventually be able to provide picture books and novels to schools and/or households with reduced access to literature).

  • Timeline for at least your initial actions (if you successfully establish a chapter, you will need to provide us with monthly status updates)

2. Send us monthly updates about your chapter's affairs and if necessary solicit funding from us for your ventures.
